What causes male factor infertility?
Home / FAQ / What causes male factor infertility?

Male factor infertility is commonly related to the quality or quantity of sperm present in semen. Male infertility can be as a result of blockages that prevent the ejaculation of semen. This cause of male infertility can be overcome by using sperm retrieval methods such as TESE to collect sperm for use in IVF.

Male factor infertility can be unexplained and fertility specialists may be unable to diagnose the cause. Sperm donation can help women conceive if their partners sperm is infertile, although legal issues around sperm donation in Turkey may require patients travel to Cyprus for IVF with sperm donation.

Low motility - Impaired movement of sperm

Sperm that is abnormally shaped or slow moving is less likely to penetrate the egg to allow for natural conception. IVF with ICSI offers a treatment solution to this form of male infertility by injecting the sperm into the center of the unfertilized egg.

Low sperm count

Male sperm count is determined by the number of sperm present in a sample of semen. IVF treatment methods are recommended for male infertility caused by low sperm count as the sperm are individually selected by fertility specialists and ICSI requires only one healthy sperm for fertilization.
