The process of egg collection is not painful and most women compare the procedure of retrieving eggs to a pap smear. It is common for women to suffer from abdominal cramping after egg collection, similar to abdominal pain during menstruation.
It is normal for there to be spotting 24-48 after fertility specialists remove ova. Slight spotting is nothing to be worried about and usually happens as a result of scaring on the vaginal wall. If the spotting becomes heavier and the patient starts bleeding following the collection of eggs, the fertility clinic should be contacted to ensure that the timing of ovulation is controlled and fertilized embryos can be successfully implanted into the uterus.
